Our History
The Beginning
Home Building Materials, Inc. was founded in 1954 by the Covington family of Sulphur, LA. Twenty-two years later in 1976, Jack Coates purchased the business and ran it successfully into the 21st century.
Our Focus
From the days our doors first opened until now, our focus has remained on building long-term relationships with customers by doing everything in our power to serve them well. By remaining a smaller, regional operation, we are able to keep our relationships strong and our operations flexible.
The Continued Legacy
Jack's son, Jeff Coates, became a member of the family business in 1980. For the next 30 years the father-and-son team successfully expanded our inventory and customer base until Jack's retirement in 2009. Today, multi-generational family leadership continues with Jeff at the helm and his two sons, Dillon and Garret, also leading the day-to-day operations and strategy.
