Our History
Founded in 1954 by the Covington Family of Sulphur, LA, Home Building Materials, Inc. has been a trusted name in construction supplies for over 70 years. When Jack Coates purchased the business in 1976, he carried forward the same values of quality and service that remain at the heart of Home Building Materials today.
Family leadership has guided our company for generations. Jack’s son, Jeff Coates, joined in 1980, and together they worked to expand both our inventory and customer base for nearly three decades, until Jack’s retirement in 2009.
Today, Jeff continues that legacy alongside his two sons, Dillon and Garret, who lead day-to-day operations and carry our vision for the future.
Our Focus
Since the day our doors first opened, our focus has remained the same: building long-term relationships with our customers by serving them with integrity and care. By remaining a smaller, regional operation, we’ve been able to maintain strong community relationships and flexible operations, always prioritizing people.
